I am living in my fifth decade on earth as me -- this unique
configuration of energy -- just like you are in whatever decade you are
in on this earth plane -- living out your unique-ness. What I do know
for sure is that time flies... whether we are having fun or not!
When I turned fifty, I felt this fierceness arise from deep inside of
me to live life to its fullest. I think this often happens for people
when we turn fifty. We become acutely aware that we are way closer to
our departure date than we are to our birth date. This amplified
awareness leads to informing and refining our choices of what we focus
on, who we spend time with, and how we live out the time that we have
left.
When I turned fifty, clear guidance came through -- "Get rid of what doesn't serve you, improve upon what you are keeping in your life, and create what you really want."
This guidance has proved to be invaluable for me in my life. As I
follow these instructions, my life changes and I align more and more
with taking responsibility for what is in my life, how it is in my life,
and what isn't in my life.
We do not always have a choice about what happens in our lives.
Impermanence and change are constants and are not always what we are
looking for in a day! That's for sure, right?! Yet, it is up to us
with how we renew our spirits, how we nourish our souls, how we care for
our bodies, how we focus our minds, how gentle or harsh we are with
ourselves, and what we bring to our life circumstances.
Let's just take a quick look at the three guidelines (that can be effective in any decade of a person's life!): Get rid of what doesn't serve you:
This guideline offers a lens to look at your whole life -- from patterns
of behavior that you engage in: habits, addictions, relationships,
patterns of relating in your personal relationships and work
relationships, choices on how you spend your time, etc. It is time to
get rid of what doesn't work! Simplify, so that your energy is
ultimately directed to what matters and what is enriching to you. This
is not a one-time event but rather an inner posture to have through
time.
There are happenings in our lives that we have no control over and are
on our plates to deal with, whether we want to or not. And then there
are the the happenings in our lives that we apparently have choice
over. By actively releasing that which doesn't serve you as a
continuous spiritual practice, you are in a constant process of turning
inward, listening, discerning, taking responsibility for, and choosing
what is in your space. Refine your life by making sure that your
relationships, patterns of behavior, ways of seeing things and thinking
about things, and the objects in your life are in service to your
well-being and growth.
Improve upon what you are keeping in your life: You
have a relationship with every-thing in your life. Now that you have
consciously chosen to keep whatever it is in your life, improve upon
it! Have you noticed how every-thing and every-one in our space needs
attention? Cars need upkeep, plants need attention to thrive at their
best, teeth need brushing, brushes need to be cleaned, every object
needs dusting, relationships need quality time and attention, animals
need love and all sorts of things, kitchens need constant attention,
clothes need cleaning, on and on... everything, absolutely everything,
needs care to some degree. Instead of going on automatic and just doing
what needs to be done, look upon everything with new eyes, open to
possibility, for how it can be even better and reflect more accurately
on who you are and what you need in your life today.
This is an exciting approach to what is in your life -- because you
claim the knowledge that every-thing is in flux; nothing is static and
you impact everything that is around you. This is your ongoing
opportunity to refine every relationship with every-thing and everyone
to be even more finely tuned to your present day vibration and needs.
Create what you want: Time
in these bodies is only so long, which we all know, whether we are
fifty or twenty. (This awareness does intensify as we age -- which is
actually a gift). To be in the constant process of asking the question,
"What do I want? What do I really want in my life?" is provocative,
inviting, stimulating, creative, mind-opening, and inquisitive. The
question can be more important at times than the answer. The question
is the key that unlocks awareness. By asking the question, you are
letting yourself know that you care about what is inside of you, you
hold the possibility of truly knowing your worthiness to have what you
want, and that you are signing up for investigating the question.
The next step is listening. Listen to how your insides respond, how
your body gives you signals, to what is revealed in dreams and waking
life.
Sometimes people get stuck in asking the question and they don't move
forward with taking a stand to transform a desire into a reality. In
these cases, the question becomes the safe zone and avoidance to making a
choice. The word “decision” translates to mean "killing off
alternatives". One needs to be willing to "kill of alternatives" in
order to deepen and manifest a desire. Courage, commitment and
conviction are needed to move forth and create what you want. Staying
too long is the question can grow to be a very stuck place. Time keeps
ticking and life changes, whether we are shaping it consciously or not.
On the other hand sometimes people can act too quickly on what they
think they want and invest time, money and energy into a decision -- to
only realize that they hadn't sat long enough with themselves and had
acted on something that they don't really want after all.
There is a balancing act between asking the question "What do I want to
create”, active contemplating, listening, and taking actions to
manifest the guidance you receive. So, find your way with it -- keep
asking, listening and direct your focus and choices in the direction of
creating what you want. Obviously, this is an ongoing creative process
-- an invitation to passionately live into your heart's desires and
soul's purpose.
For me, these three guidelines have shape-shifted my living. I feel
engaged continuously in evaluating what does and doesn't serve me and I
create improvement on what I am keeping in my life. I have renovated my
home, my office, my marriage, my relationships, and my ways of caring
for myself. I find it a dynamic and exciting process to improve upon
everything in my life. Also, the question, "What do I want to create"
helps me to love and claim what I have already created in my life and it
provokes me to stay awake to my ability to align and manifest what is
longing to be known and lived.
I invite you to engage in these three guidelines with me. Please share in the blog what you discover.
