With Valentines Day approaching, some of us feel swooned with the
beloved in our lives. But many people either feel lonely, with or
without partners. Some people defend against it by belittling the
holiday and others celebrate it by making Valentines Day cards for
everyone they know. Bottom line, Valentines Day can bring up issues for
people. It is often a trigger to confront where we are in our
relationships.
St. Valentine's Day began as a liturgical celebration of one or more
early Christian saints named Valentinus. The most popular martyrology
associated with Saint Valentine was that he was imprisoned for
performing weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to marry and for
ministering to Christians, who were persecuted under the Roman Empire;
during his imprisonment, he is said to have healed the daughter of his
jailer Asterius. Legend states that before his execution he wrote "from
your Valentine" as a farewell to her. These words can now be found on
many Hallmark cards...
So, although Valentines is often associated with romance, flowers and
doves, we can expand the holiday to simply be about love. Romantic love
is only one aspect of love and perhaps the most illusionary of all ~~
because it is fleeting. True love ~~ sacred love ~~ is the love that
remains... constant, unfluctuating, steady, overcoming personality
issues and transcending even death. Love can not die. There is a
saying that i love. It is "Forms change, Love remains." Ahhhh... love
can not be diminished or taken away even when all else is stripped from
us. This is sacred love. This is Bigger love that is not based on how
we show up or don't show up in the world and in our relationships.
Love is not a feeling, although we love when we feel in love.
It is then that dopamine floods our brains and we are intoxicated.
However, this is attraction, not love. Attraction brings us into yummy
connection and projection but all too soon, it can change into the
opposite of attraction -- the experience of being repelled.
So, how to deepen into The Sacred Heart? The Sacred Heart is the One
Love. Love permeates all of our hearts. It is deeper and more powerful
than any of our difference. It is our Sameness. It is not just our
humanity ~~ for the Sacred Heart includes all beings ~~ four legged, two
legged, winged, finned, crawling beings ~~ all beings. The Sacred
heart is the divine pulsation that manifests as everything and everyone
and is also the Invisible. The Sacred Heart is our vertical alignment
with Spirit and Earth.
We all have our ways of tuning into the opening of the heart so we feel
The Sacred Heart. For some of us, Nature brings us right there. For
others it is music or drawing or reading and writing poetry. For some,
it is the company of a friend or a child's smile or random acts of
kindness and service. It can be meditation or chanting or dancing. So,
whatever it is for you, why not use Valentines Day as a way of
deepening into the Sacred Heart?
An amazing extraordinary event is happening on this Valentines Day that
absolutely delivers me into experiencing The Sacred Heart. It is an
international event called One Billion Rising. Women and men are
gathering in over two hundred countries to take a stand -- to strike out
and say no to violence against women in this world. About one in three
women on the planet will be raped or beaten in her lifetime. This is
atrocity. There is a world-wide invitation to gather together as a
world ~~ to march, to speak out, to sing, to dance, to refuse to
participate in the status quo of accepting abuse of women on this planet
and instead to come together in solidity and huge numbers of people to
say no!!!! This is the Sacred Heart. People coming together because
we care, we love, we want to make a difference. Google One Billion
Rising and find out what is taking place in your city and country. Find
out what countries are participating. Here in Atlanta, we gather at
the Capital at 10:00 am. We will have speakers and musicians. We will
march to Woodruff Park and then we will dance together -- a flash
dance. You can learn it on the web site and join in. This dance will
be happening all over the world with the message that these are our
bodies and it is time to break the chains of violence and abuse. It is
full of Spirit and Empowerment. Today as I rehearsed the dance with 70
other people, i cried. It was the Sacred Heart moving the spirit
through us all as One. This is an awesome experience in our lives -- a
fabulous, magnificent opportunity to feel unity and the power of
goodness in One Billion Rising.
We are the Sacred Heart. What can be more beautimus and powerful for
V-Day to experience our love into action with people all over the
planet?!
I love your heart Deva. Have a happy Valentine's Day.
